      Description

According to the 1769 facsimile, Joshua 19:2 should be:

"And they had in their inheritance Beer–sheba, Sheba, and Moladah,"

Interestingly, all printed editions that I have write "or" or "and" after the first comma; some write "or" and others write "and" - this is how I found this.

Please confirm what the Blayney has in this instance. Thanks.

My question is: What we should do? The text is without or, should I remove it?

This seems to be one of those cases where publishers of later editions of the AV/KJV made different decisions - presumably because 'Sheba' is the second part of 'Beer-sheba'.

The word 'or' is definitely absent in the Blayney 1769 for Joshua 19:2.

It's perhaps significant that the above DJVU image has a margin note against verse 2 that references 1 Ch. 4:28

cf. Our KJV module lacks all the xrefs that were in Blayney margins.
There's not even an option to display xrefs.

Aside: A footnote in the NASB tagged on the word 'Sheba' in Joshua 19:2 reads, In Josh 15:26, Shema

Josh 15:26 (KJV) reads "Amam, and Shema, and Moladah,"

cf. The Trinitarian Bible Society printed Westminster edition of the KJV has a margin cross reference to 1 Ch 4:28 against the word 'Shema' in Josh 15:26

1 Chr 4:28 reads "And they dwelt at Beer-sheba, and Moladah, and Hazar-shual."

Conjecture: A possible scenario might be that in the visual appearance of the Hebrew text in Josh 19:2 it was difficult to distinguish between 'Sheba' and 'Shema' - I'm thinking now of the Hebrew manuscripts that were used by the translators in 1611.

I'd still like to have some input from DM Smith on this issue.
